Underwater photography is a type of photography that I have only recently become involved in. A long cherished wish of mine is to photograph Blue Whales underwater. I’ve seen Blue Whales above water in Spitsbergen, but it seems to me that it will be a lot more impressive to see such a huge animal at a few meters under water swimming past. However, a kit for taking pictures underwater is quite expensive. When Covid started, I suddenly couldn’t travel anywhere anymore. One of the destinations that was still possible was Tenerife. Since this also had me save up quite a bit of money, this seemed like a good time to buy that underwater housing. I also bought a good lens with it. In the autumn of 2020, however, it was no longer possible to travel and my underwater housing went in a box without ever having been used. In the spring of 2021 I made another attempt. Now I managed to get to Tenerife. In the fall, the whales were supposed to happen. Unfortunately, Asia was locked that fall and I then went to Ecuador and Bolivia for regular ‘above water’ photography.

However, underwater photography continued to attract. This year (the time of writing is 2022) I suddenly had the opportunity to photograph whale sharks and do some dives in Mexico. I liked that very much! So I am hoping to photograph more underwater in the future and hopefully one day a Blue Whale! Below is another gallery with the photos I am most satisfied with. Different from  the photos in other galleries, I find it less important here to identify all species at species level. That requires a whole new expertise and for underwater I am mainly interested in photography. If I do know a name, I will of course add it!

Below is a selection of the pictures I liked the most. They are arranged chronologically from newest to oldest. The stories behind these pictures can be read in the blog.
